Asharah has been performing since the age of six as a dancer,
figure skater, and singer. She has extensive experience in Turkish,
Egyptian and American belly dance, and she is best known for her
dramatic fusion of tribal, Turkish, and cabaret styles. Her technique,
ability to interpret music, and finger cymbal playing skills have been
noted and admired throughout the belly dance community and by her
audiences.
She currently performs at the Shisha Lounge in Sterling, Virginia;
she was also a member of the avant-garde troupe Martiya Possession and
was a two year member of Raks Odalisque, Princeton University's Middle
Eastern dance troupe. In addition, Asharah has performed as a soloist
at many venues on the East Coast in Northern Virginia, Maryland, New
Jersey, and Manhattan, as well as at some of Washington, DC's largest
nightclubs: Nation and the Black Cat. Asharah is also featured on the
newly released Gothic Bellydance performance DVD, available through
World Dance New York.
Asharah is not only an accomplished dancer, but also has a B.A. in
Near Eastern Studies from Princeton University. Ever since her
childhood, Asharah has had a profound interest in Middle Eastern arts
and culture. She brings her love and understanding of the Middle East
to her dance and to her audiences.
